Pittsylvania County residents are fortunate to be served by over 80 physicians and 40 dentists, as well as a major regional medical center just a few miles away:

The Danville Regional Medical Center is a 500-bed facility offering 24-hour emergency care, a maternity unit, and an alcohol and substance abuse recovery program. The facility also maintains a school of nursing, radiological technology and respiratory therapy.

County residents can also choose to access the extensive medical resources of Duke University Medical Center, Lynchburg General Hospital, Virginia Baptist Hospital in Lynchburg, University of Virginia Medical Center, University of North Carolina Health System and Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.

County residents have nearby access to quality medical attention, regardless of their location.  Staunton River Medical Center operates a quality medical facility in Hurt.  Centra Health Medical Center, an affiliate of Centra Health of Lynchburg, offers medical attention in the Gretna area and Thompson Family Medical Center provides healthcare to the Chatham region. 

Three nursing homes in adjacent Danville and one nursing home in Gretna provide long-term care for the aged. Two adult homes and two state-of-the-art modern assisted-living facilities are also located in the area.
