Raising children in Pittsylvania County is made that much easier by a school system that genuinely cares about educating the whole child: mind, body and spirit.
Our ten elementary schools, four middle schools and four high schools provide stimulating learning and growing experiences for over 9,000 children. At every level, students needs are closely monitored, thanks to an impressive student/teacher ratio of approximately 15:1 in elementary schools, and 18:1 in our middle and high schools.
Impressive career and technical training facilities are available at all of our middle schools and high schools.
In addition to our public schools, we are also proud of our excellent private educational institutions. Founded in 1909, Hargrave Military Academy is known globally for its excellent educational structure and curriculum, as is Chatham Hall , a private girls school that offers students a strong, college-preparatory academic program, rich extracurricular opportunities, and a beautiful 362-acre campus. Both are boarding schools, but accept local day students. Also located in the county is Faith Christian Academy , currently accredited through the eighth grade and is in candidate status for accreditation of grades nine through twelve. If you are looking for an early start, you may also want to investigate Woodlawn Academy - a private elementary school located just a few miles outside the county seat of Chatham, Virginia.
