When you and yours grow weary of the area’s magnificent scenery, we invite you to discover a wide range of cultural activities. In addition to private concert and theater groups that are active and well-supported by the community at large, you’ll find:

  • Danville’s Museum of Fine Arts is a treasure-trove of art galleries – with studio space for area artists and an auditorium for musical and dramatic productions. An affiliate of the Virginia Museum, its Sutherlin Mansion is recognized as the last Capitol of the Confederacy.The
  • Pittsylvania County Library offers two convenient branches with Internet access and over 82,000 volumes. Rural service is enhanced by a bookmobile. Additional resources are available to the public at the Danville Public Library, Averett College and Danville Community College.
  • Danville’s Science Center is affiliated with the Science Museum of Virginia and features a changing collection of exhibits for young and old alike.The Averett University Concert Lecture Series brings nationally and internationally acclaimed performers and lecturers to the region throughout the year.
  • The Danville Area Association for the Arts and Humanities coordinates numerous cultural events that "bring theatre to the area."   The Association presents a Performing Arts Series each season, sponsors a Young People's Series, and also grants scholarships to area students planning careers in the arts.
  • The American Armored Foundation Tank Museum contains one of the nation’s largest collections of tanks, military vehicles and military memorabilia.
  • Our county’s residents are also avid concert-goers, visiting Charlotte, Raleigh, Richmond, Charlottesville and Roanoke throughout the year.
