A campground for recreational vehicles is being planned north of Gretna near Leesville Lake.

Landowners Tim and Patricia Reynolds of Hurt and Timothy and Gretchen Clark of Gretna have submitted a request for a special-use permit to develop Running Cedar RV Resort.

If the special-use permit is approved, the campground will be located on Gallows Road about four miles off U.S. 29. Gallows Road ends at the Leesville Dam public boat ramp.

The 39.81 acres will be developed in phases and will feature 49 luxury sites and 51 regular sites.

The first phase is scheduled to open Memorial Day.

Visitors will set up their recreational vehicles on large wooded and level campsites which are within walking distance of the 17-mile-long Leesville Lake, the public boat ramp and lake front picnic area.

There with be a clubhouse with lounge and game room, a private swimming pool, walking trails, covered picnic pavilion, picnic tables and fire rings.

The regular sites will be rented on a nightly or weekly basis.

The owners hope to eventually offer RV luxury condo lots to motor home owners with electrical hookups, concrete pads with stamped patio, water and sewer hookups and a storage shed.

Leesville Lake has more than 100 miles of mostly undeveloped shoreline.
